Performance

Testing a proxy service is a different exercise from benchmarking a VPS. There are no CPU scores or disk throughput numbers here.

What matters is latency, anonymity integrity, and how each proxy type holds up under detection tools that buyers’ target sites will also use.

I tested four proxy configurations across three test categories: speed and latency via curl, anonymity and leak testing via browserleaks.com and ipleak.net, and fraud risk scoring via Scamalytics.

Speed and Latency

I ran each proxy through two curl requests per protocol against httpbin.org/ip, recording connection time and time to first byte (TTFB).

TTFB is the most useful metric here. It reflects how quickly the proxy passes a request and receives a response, which is what buyers actually feel during use.

The US and Germany datacenter IPv4 proxies performed at a broadly similar level on HTTP, averaging around 2.1s TTFB for clean runs.

SOCKS5 added roughly 0.8s overhead on the US proxy compared to HTTP, which is expected given the protocol’s additional handshake steps. The Germany proxy’s first HTTP run produced a 33.5s spike before returning to 1.48s on the second attempt.

That kind of variance on back-to-back runs from the same proxy signals load issues on that server rather than a network routing problem, and it’s something buyers running latency-sensitive tasks should factor in.

The IPv6 proxy was the most problematic. Two of four requests either timed out or returned a 504 Gateway error. The two that did complete had TTFB values of 34s and 13.8s respectively, neither of which is usable for any serious application. One run did eventually confirm the exit IP (181.214.x.x), proving the tunnel works in principle, but the instability rate in a four-request test is too high to recommend IPv6 for anything time-critical.

The residential proxy posted the cleanest pair of results at 2.51s and 1.69s, but followed those with two consecutive 503 errors. Two successful requests and two failures in four tries is not a reliable baseline.

Geo-Location Accuracy

This is the most significant finding from the entire test run, and buyers who purchase specific country IPs for geo-targeting need to read this carefully.

The US IPv4 proxy did not resolve to the United States on any of the three tools I tested. BrowserLeaks and Scamalytics both placed it in Panama; ipleak.net showed United Kingdom.

All three identified the ISP as HIVELOCITY, Inc., which is consistent with a hosting infrastructure company that has nodes in multiple locations. The IP itself resolves to a HIVELOCITY subnet registered in Panama.

The Germany proxy fared better but still showed a split result. ipleak.net returned Germany, but BrowserLeaks and Scamalytics both placed it in the Netherlands, with the city showing as Amsterdam. The ISP on those two tools was Accelerated IT Services GmbH, not HIVELOCITY.

For buyers whose use case requires a confirmed US or German exit IP, the actual geolocation of what gets assigned matters more than the country label in the portal. Both proxies connected successfully and provided consistent IP masking, but the country label in the purchase form does not guarantee that geo-detection tools will agree with it.

After documenting this finding, I contacted Proxys.io support via live chat to request a replacement under the 24-hour guarantee. The full exchange is worth documenting.

I sent the first message at 23:45 and was connected to an agent at 23:49. His first response offered a troubleshooting explanation and linked to an article on geolocation database discrepancies.

Scamalytics returned a fraud score of 0/100 (Low Risk) with the location confirmed as Los Angeles, California. The replacement also improved on the original’s fraud score, which had been 25/100 (Medium Risk) on the same tool.

Two things this exchange confirms for readers. First, the original IP assignment was wrong. The agent said so explicitly.

Second, the replacement mechanism works and was honored outside the stated 24-hour window. If your assigned IP does not resolve to the purchased country, contact support, share a screenshot, and ask for a replacement by subnet. The process took 19 minutes in this test, and the outcome was correct.

Anonymity and Leak Testing

I ran each proxy through browserleaks.com and ipleak.net to check for WebRTC leaks and DNS exposure.

On the first test run for each datacenter proxy and the residential proxy, ipleak.net flagged active WebRTC leaks, exposing the real source IP (41.XX.XXX.134) alongside the proxy IP.

On subsequent runs after adjusting browser settings, the leak did not reappear. This is a browser-level issue rather than a proxy-level one: WebRTC bypasses proxy settings by design, and no proxy type, including residential, can block it without additional configuration.

Buyers who don’t know this will assume the proxy is protecting them fully when it isn’t.

DNS leaks:

All four proxy types showed DNS leaks on ipleak.net, with between 17 and 23 DNS servers exposed per test.

A buyer using these proxies for anonymous browsing without also running a DNS-over-HTTPS resolver or a VPN-style DNS override will have their DNS queries visible to any monitoring tool that checks for this.

These findings reflect default client behavior rather than a Proxys.io-specific failure. SOCKS5 connections made with remote resolution enabled (the socks5h:// scheme in curl and most proxy tools) resolve hostnames on the proxy side, which prevents this leak path. Buyers should configure remote DNS resolution or a DNS-over-HTTPS resolver; the product pages would benefit from explaining this.

The Germany proxy scored better at 0 but was flagged as an anonymizing VPN rather than a server, which is a different signal that some anti-fraud systems handle differently.

The residential IP confirmed what it should: The residential IP resolved to a genuine US cable ISP with a Cable/DSL connection type and no datacenter or server flags. On ipleak.net, the residential proxy registered under a different residential ISP on the second check, confirming rotation.

These are real home ISP connections and would pass detection checks that datacenter IPs fail. For buyers whose task requires residential-grade trust, the proxy worked as intended when it connected successfully.

Overall Verdict on Performance

The datacenter IPv4 proxies performed adequately for basic latency on HTTP, averaging around 2.1s TTFB, but the geo-location discrepancies are a real problem for buyers targeting specific countries. The US proxy resolves to Panama or the UK depending on the tool; the Germany proxy splits between Germany and the Netherlands.

Neither is consistent, and buyers relying on country-level geo-targeting should verify their assigned IP before building workflows around it. The IPv6 proxy showed too much instability across four requests to recommend for production use.

The residential proxy passed detection tests cleanly when it connected, but two consecutive 503 errors in the same test session suggest availability issues that need improvement. DNS leaks and WebRTC exposure affected all proxy types, which is a standard proxy limitation rather than a Proxys.io-specific failure, but it is something the product pages should disclose.

Ease of Use

Setting up and managing proxies on Proxys.io is largely uncomplicated, though the experience differs noticeably between proxy types.

Datacenter orders are fast and credential delivery is clean. Residential proxies, on the other hand, add a configuration layer that first-time users won’t anticipate. I started where every new user does: the registration flow.

1. Registration

Proxys.io doesn’t push account creation upfront. The homepage leads directly to a “Buy Proxy” page, and you can begin a purchase without an existing account.

When checking out as a new user, a single email field appears in the payment panel; your account is created from that email during the transaction. There’s no separate registration page, no phone verification, and no ID check.

One small note: the email closes with a Russian-language sentence despite the account being registered in English. It’s the same localization gap I spotted later in the dashboard, and it suggests the product’s English layer sits on top of a Russian-first codebase.

Several things about the ordering flow are worth calling out before buyers commit:

  • Bulk discount banner: After selecting a type and country, a banner appears offering savings if you add more proxies. Clicking it bumps your quantity automatically to the same type and location rather than letting you pick different types. This only benefits buyers who need multiple identical IPs in the same country.

  • Coupon behavior: I had a code 3SNET10 that applied a 10% discount to datacenter and IPv6 orders but was silently rejected for residential proxies, with no explanation shown in the checkout interface.
  • IPv6 acknowledgment gate: The IPv6 checkout requires ticking a box confirming you understand what IPv6 is before proceeding. Given that many buyers purchase IPv6 proxies expecting them to work on every site when less than half of websites currently support the protocol, this is a sensible friction point.

Activation across all tested orders was instant. From payment confirmation to Active status in the dashboard, there was no gap.

The residential ordering flow is structured differently from everything else. The product is sold by traffic volume rather than per IP, with the entry-level Bronze plan providing 1 GB of residential traffic.

The ordering process itself is quick, but I came away with one real concern: the coupon exclusion on residential products is not communicated anywhere in the flow.

A buyer who finds the discount code online, adds a residential proxy, applies the code, and sees 0% with no explanation will either assume the code is expired or miss the issue entirely. That needs a fix. With all my proxies purchased and Active, I headed to the dashboard.

The Orders tab displays a column-rich table: order number, status (green dot for Active), quantity and type, tariff plan, renewal price, purchase date, expiry date, a manual renew button, an auto-renewal toggle, and a mass renewal checkbox. The expiry countdown (“29 days 23 hours”) removes any guesswork about when you need to act.

Two things stood out on first login. A security notice about a scheduled system update appeared across the top of every dashboard page until dismissed.

More surprisingly, a third-party banner ad for an unrelated VPS provider appeared prominently below it. Seeing an ad for a different company inside a paid service is unusual, and buyers who’ve just spent money on proxies are unlikely to welcome it.

One localization gap also showed up: a sub-filter button inside the Orders tab reads “Все заказы” in Russian despite the rest of the interface being in English. It means “All orders” and the function is clear enough, but it shouldn’t appear in the main navigation of an English-language product.

The tab structure is logical, and I had no trouble finding what I needed. What I didn’t appreciate was the competitor ad; it’s the kind of thing that feels out of place in a product you’re paying for. After getting oriented, I clicked into my first order to pull the proxy credentials.

4. Proxy Management

How you access and use your credentials depends on which proxy type you purchased.

Datacenter and IPv6 proxies

Both HTTP and SOCKS5 ports are provisioned at the same time; there’s no need to choose a protocol at purchase. The pre-formatted connection string is a practical addition that most proxy management tools can accept directly without reformatting.

The 10-proxy IPv6 order revealed something buyers should understand before purchasing. Each entry in the credential table shows two addresses: an IPv4 tunnel IP (in the 191.101.x.x range) used for the actual connection, and a separate IPv6 exit address in the 2604:4500:704:… range that the target website sees.

Each proxy in the batch also gets its own unique port assignment rather than sharing a single port. This tunneling model is documented in the site FAQ but isn’t called out during the purchase flow, so buyers who skip the documentation will be confused when IPv4 addresses appear inside an IPv6 order.

The residential proxy setup is the clearest friction point.

The sheet-creation requirement isn’t surfaced before purchase, the coupon exclusion on residential products has no in-checkout explanation, and the per-traffic pricing model is different enough from datacenter proxies that first-time buyers will need time to orient.

Two dashboard issues, an in-product competitor ad and a Russian-language navigation label in an otherwise English interface, don’t affect functionality but do affect the overall feel of the product.

The separation of email addresses by purpose (support, admin, partnership, complaints) is a thoughtful touch. It means queries land with the right team rather than sitting in a single shared inbox.

The dual Telegram presence is also worth understanding before you use it: @proxys_support_bot connects you to the support team, while @proxys_bot is a functional tool for managing proxies directly from Telegram, not a support channel. Conflating the two will waste your time.

With the channel map in hand, I decided to test the live chat first.

Testing the Live Chat

The chat widget doesn’t open directly into a conversation. Clicking it presents a category picker before any contact is made:

Does the IP rotation apply to both HTTP and SOCKS5 connections equally, or does the rotation mechanism behave differently depending on the protocol? Also, if I configure IP-based authorization on an order that already has username/password credentials, can both authentication methods be active at the same time, or does one override the other?”

What happened first:

The chat opened with a bot named WALL·E, displayed under the name “Roxy” in the chat header. That name mismatch is minor, but the bot’s behavior stands out.

One second after my question landed, the bot sent a canned response: “I still haven’t received a response from you. Can I help you with anything, or do you need assistance from one of our operators?” The bot hadn’t processed my message at all. I selected “I need help of operator” at 17:24:46 and was transferred immediately.

The support agent connected and replied at 17:27:06, approximately 2 minutes and 20 seconds after the transfer. His answer was direct:

“Rotation is available on both protocols, and it works the same way for each. Rotating proxies do not support IP authentication; you can only connect to them using a username and password.”

Both parts of the question were addressed in a single response with no clarifying questions asked and no request to check a help article.

The information on the dual-authentication question is also something that isn’t documented anywhere in the portal, making Egor’s answer directly useful for readers considering automation setups.

One significant discrepancy to flag:

The contacts page lists working hours as 24/7. The bot’s opening message stated: “We work for you from 09:00 to 01:00 Moscow time.”

That is a 16-hour window, not around-the-clock coverage. Moscow time is UTC+3, so for buyers in the US or Asia, the actual support window is considerably narrower than advertised. This is the kind of gap that won’t affect most European buyers but matters a great deal to anyone counting on late-night support from outside that timezone.

One useful feature:
